Jayavarman II proclaimed the country's independence in the ninth century and distanced itself from the kingdom of Java. A huge, in rock carved Buddha (Preah Ang Thom) lying in the temple, dominates the scene. Descent to the river where a portion of the bed is carved with sculptures and other lingas before pushing to the waterfalls where you can refresh yourself if you wish. It is the same water that watered Siem Reap and pours into the Tonle Sap Lake.
